Dutch Instructors

Karin Zijlstra

Karin Zijlstra is a Dutch Instructor (as a Second Language) and General Coordinator at the Alingua Language School. She is also responsible for the ES Bergen Primary Library.
Karin studied modern languages ​​in France and England. She graduated cum laude with the French maîtrise at Université Stendhal in Grenoble.  She also successfully completed the Post-HBO programmes “Primary Education Teacher” and “Dutch as a Second Language Teacher, Adult Education” in the Netherlands.
Because Karin worked and studied abroad for ten years (in Switzerland, Kenya, France and England), she understands like no other what it is like to be in a country where you might not yet have a good command of the language. For her, teaching is much more than language teaching alone. It is a way to contribute to the happiness of people (both children and adults) by familiarizing them in a pleasant way with the language and customs of the country.

Mariette Rees-Magielsen

Mariette Rees-Magielsen is an experienced teacher with a Dutch teaching qualification in primary school education. For the first 10 years of her career, Mariette worked full-time at primary schools in the Netherlands. Thereafter, she moved to Tokyo, Japan with her British husband as a ‘trailing spouse’. Mariette worked for 9 years as a kindergarten teacher in a multi-cultural learning environment at the International School of the Sacred Heart in Tokyo. She then moved with her family in 2009 to Moscow, Russia, and worked as a Dutch culture and language teacher at MISHKA, the Dutch NTC primary school. Mariette puts the main focus on providing a trusted, warm and supportive learning environment, where young children can reach their full potential and confidently express themselves in a second language.

Lisette Numan

Lisette Numan is a Dutch Instructor (as a Second Language) at the Alingua Language School.  She also works at a care institution in North Holland with children in primary schools and play groups.

Lisette is HBO educated in the field of communication and has followed several specialist courses in the language (Roosters, Small Steps). She has also received basic training in health care. At the moment she is following an HBO education in Child and Youth Psychology. Because of her many travels, Lisette is internationally oriented. She speaks fluent German and English as well as basic Spanish and French.
